SLPD accepts Holidays and Heroes nominations

The Spirit Lake Police Department is accepting nominations for children to participate in the annual Holidays and Heroes.

Nominations for children can be sent to the Spirit Lake Police Department at [email protected] or dropped off in the lobby at 6155 W. Maine St., Spirit Lake. The deadline for nominations is Oct. 31.

Nominations should include the child’s name, age, a reason for nominating them and their parents' contact information.

At the Holidays and Heroes event, a first responder will take a child shopping for their family and buy Christmas presents from the Walmart in Post Falls.

The children and first responders then come back to base, where they get to explore fire trucks, police cars or, sometimes, a swat vehicle.

While they play games, drink hot chocolate and eat candy, volunteers wrap the presents for the children to take home to their family.
