PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Simpson sparks Timberlake past West Valley

| November 29, 2023 1:20 AM

SPOKANE VALLEY — Junior Lucy Simpson scored six of her team-high eight points in the second quarter for the Timberlake Tigers in a 48-22 nonleague win over the West Valley Eagles on Tuesday.

Morgan Dickinson and Payton Young had seven points each for Timberlake (3-0), which is scheduled to travel to Sandpoint on Thursday, then play at North Central on Friday.

“The girls shared the ball really well and did a good job defensively,” said Timberlake coach Matt Miller, whose team limited West Valley to 5-of-39 shooting. “We just did a good job of making the shots tough and rebounding tonight.”

Chloe DeHaro scored eight points for West Valley (0-1).

SPOKANE VALLEY — A slow start, coupled with missed opportunities in the third quarter stymied the Trojans in a loss to the Bears.

Brooklynn Brennan scored 16 points, Kailey Walton 13 for Post Falls (1-4). Letti Asper added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Trojans.

“We came out flat, they came out in a press, and we kicked ourselves by turning the ball over,” Post Falls coach Brian Hall said.

Down by 14 points at the half, the Trojans then missed two layups and a couple put-backs early in the third quarter, or “it’s a whole different ball game,” Hall said.

“Turnovers in the first half, and they outrebounded us in the game,” he added.

Junior Eden Sander scored 20 points for CV in its season opener.

Post Falls plays host to Rocky Mountain of Meridian, last year’s state 5A runners-up, on Thursday, the first of three games in three days vs. Boise-area schools.
