Plummer school awarded $13K grant for dishwasher

PLUMMER — Lakeside Middle/High School in Plummer has been awarded nearly $13,000 for a high-temperature dishwasher.

Lakeside is among 14 schools in Idaho to be awarded a federal grant through the Idaho Department of Education's Child Nutrition Programs to buy new kitchen equipment such as freezers, ovens, fridges and dishwashers.

The department awarded $129,459 total. The funds were acquired through the United States Department of Agriculture Equipment Assistance Grant.

The application process was competitive, with 24 school food authorities requesting more than $535,849, according to a Monday news release from the Idaho Department of Education. Selection factors included consideration of food service equipment or lack of appropriate items, availability of existing state and local funding for equipment purchases, strategies for adopting lunchroom changes that provide more convenience and appeal to the student and opportunities to realize meaningful impacts on the nutrition and quality of meals.
