HAYDEN — A pilot was injured when his plane crashed Monday at the south end of Coeur d’Alene Airport — Pappy Boyington Field.

The twin-engine Cessna 310 crashed shortly after 9 a.m., according to Northern Lakes Fire Protection District.

Within five minutes of reaching the crash site, emergency responders extracted the pilot, who was reportedly alert and oriented.

Northern Lakes crews responded from Station Three, on the north side of the airport, deploying a fire engine and the Coeur d’Alene Airport’s crash truck. Station One Hayden also responded to the scene.

There were no passengers on the plane.

The pilot, whose name was not released by Northern Lakes Fire, was transported to Kootenai Health in stable condition.

Northern Lakes Fire Deputy Fire Marshal and Public Information Officer Chris Larson told reporters at the scene that the pilot was performing a series of take-offs and landings when the crash occurred.

The cause of the crash is undetermined at this time. The Federal Aviation Administration is working with the airport to investigate the matter.
