COEUR d'ALENE — The Coeur d'Alene Goodwill store will close for several months beginning Nov. 20 as it undergoes an extensive remodel.

The popular thrift store at 1212 N. Fourth St. opened at that site March 9, 1993. It is expected to reopen when the remodel is complete in July 2024, according to a Friday news release from Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest.

A big half-off sale on all items in the store will be held Friday through Sunday.

“Our Coeur d’Alene community has been incredibly supportive of our mission through their donations and shopping over the last 35 years,” Clark Brekke, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest, said in the announcement.

“We are looking forward to reopening next summer with a facility that offers a better service area for our participants and employees, as well as our donors and customers," he said.

BWA Architects in Spokane has designed the remodel project, which will add workforce and family service offices with a separate entrance, added restrooms, improved energy efficiencies and a covered drive-through donation area. Reconstruction of the parking lot began in August.

The current property was originally an Albertsons Grocery store. Prior to opening at the Fourth Avenue site, Goodwill operated a smaller store on Sherman Avenue that opened in July 1988.
