Mamola, a freshman, broke the 4A Region 1 record in the 500-yard freestyle during Saturday’s meet at the University of Idaho Pool, finishing in 4 minutes, 50.96 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 5:07.01. Mamola is also the top seed in this week’s state 4A meet in the 200 freestyle. “Michael works extremely hard year round and it is reflected in his results,” Lakeland coach Rob Urbaniak said. “He is a selfless athlete who steps into any event and is very supportive of his teammates.”
