REGAN: Response to ‘Counterfeit Candy’

| May 31, 2023 1:00 AM

It’s ironic that Brent Regan’s most recent column discusses propaganda and points a finger at others. But I have some advice in response to KCRCC’s business plan:

1) Quality is not produced solely by effort. You write: “no other organization puts as much effort as the KCRCC puts into the process of evaluating candidates.” One can spend a lot of effort and still end up with a poor quality product.

2) What’s worse than counterfeit candy? Your favorite candy, when the recipe is overhauled and the maker claims it’s the same product. You state: “‘Republican’ is a brand,” and people “expect the person they are voting for to hold a particular set of ideas and beliefs,” yet your candidates do not embody the ideals and beliefs that people here have always supported — fiscally conservative, highly moral, qualified citizens who want to better their community, not destroy it.

3) People do not like candy shoved down their throats, brand name or counterfeit. It’s just not very enjoyable. So please refrain from choking us with your politics.

4) Finally, people cannot subsist on candy alone. Processed sugar is not nutritious and eventually rots your teeth. Most people would prefer to have a homecooked meal, with a variety of dishes and maybe some fresh apple pie, shared with family and friends, instead of a force-fed diet consisting solely of one brand of candy.

It’s just common sense.
