Hayden holds two Memorial Day ceremonies

| May 31, 2023 1:00 AM

The city of Hayden conducted two Memorial Day ceremonies for roughly 350 people Monday to honor veterans who gave their lives in service to our country.

The first ceremony started the day with the laying of a memorial wreath and tolling of the boats at Honeysuckle Beach, honoring service members lost at sea. The ceremony included a prayer, rifle salute and taps.

The Remembrance Ceremony followed at McIntire Family Park, where chair of the Hayden Veterans Commission Steven Guzauskis acted as master of ceremonies. Hayden Meadows Special Chorus opened with the National Anthem, followed with a speech by Mayor Scott Forssell.

City Council President Matt Roetter read the newly installed pavers and Robert W. Smee II read a Memorial Day address before the placement of a memorial wreath at the PFC Robert J. Gordon Veterans Memorial Plaza by the Hayden Veterans Commission.

The ceremony concluded with a bagpipe rendition of "Amazing Grace" by Hot Punch Highlander Kristin Stafford, with a rifle salute, bugle taps and the retiring of colors by the Fairchild Air Force Base Honor Guard.
