MEYER AND McCREA: Community still needs them

| May 21, 2023 1:00 AM

Judy Meyer and Regina McCrea ran with integrity and lost with grace.

I want to thank both of you for your service and tireless work with the county libraries. What you accomplished, especially in the last few years for the patrons and especially the children hopefully will never go unnoticed.

In this political climate, in North Idaho, it took considerable courage, hard work and self-sacrifice to run for office again. You put yourself and, indirectly, your family “out there.” Your only reason wasn’t for any political agenda, but only to serve others and to ensure our freedoms. I am proud to have supported you.

I could dwell at length on the opposition’s tactics and outright lies and personal attacks, but now isn’t the time to look back, and hopefully it isn’t the end.

I hope, however, that this setback doesn’t discourage either one of you and that you continue to fight for the rights of our children. Elected or not, you gave a reasoned voice to what I and many others feel is a very pivotal issue in our democracy. But most importantly, you lost the way you live your lives. With Grace.

I genuinely hope you will not disappear from the political landscape in Kootenai County. Because we need you both!
