Planting flowers, raising flags

COEUR d'ALENE — It's time for flags and flowers.
As part of an annual program, the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association will be putting up 170 flower baskets and 70 American flags Thursday.
From install to takedown, the Flags and Flowers Program costs about $25,000, which is covered entirely by donations.
The flower baskets are tended to seven days a week for four months by the association’s maintenance team.
"Please join us in ensuring that the sidewalks of downtown Coeur d’Alene are lined proudly with flying American flags and blooming flowers," a press release said.
New this year, five 16-inch flower baskets valued at $180 each have been donated by Aspen Nursery, which grows the flowers in all downtown Coeur d'Alene's baskets.
Basket tickets are $5 and proceeds support the flags and flowers program.
