Standoff ends peacefully

At 6:20 p.m. Monday, Post Falls Police Communications received an emergency call from a resident in the 300 block of Spencer Avenue. The caller stated they were witnessing a physical fight between a male and female.

When Post Falls Police patrol units arrived and approached the apartment, officers heard a gunshot, believed to have come from the apartment. Officers immediately secured the perimeter around the apartment. Neighboring residents were evacuated from their apartments for their safety.

The Post Falls Police Special Response Team (SRT) was called to the scene along with the Kootenai County Sheriff Joint SWAT team due to a possible hostage situation. Once the teams were in place and neighboring residents evacuated, Kootenai County negotiators were able to get the occupants of the apartment to surrender.

An investigation continues.
