MOTHERS: Women’s health in jeopardy

As we get ready to celebrate Mothers everywhere, we also have to realize that they have never been more at risk of dying. Maternal deaths are higher in the U.S. than any other developed country. Idaho, because of recently passed laws, is now one of the deadliest states in the nation for women.

For those who have health issues around pregnancy, compounded by the threat to our medical professionals, the risk in Idaho is ever growing. Unfortunately, it matters not what religion you belong to or what political party you favor or your own personal views. A pregnancy gone wrong affects every woman and her family. There are many things that can go wrong with a pregnancy including a partial miscarriage, a tubal or ectopic pregnancy, a placenta that prematurely separates from the uterus. In every case, the life of the mother is at stake.

It’s time that we use our common sense in making our health care decisions and trust the professionals to help us make those decisions. Leave your emotions and the politicians out of it. Think about it. Why are we deliberately putting the health and welfare of our women in such peril when we have the knowledge and resources to treat these emergencies?

Gov. Little supported and signed the legislation against women. Your elected officials are the ones who made it possible. Elections do have consequences.
