CDA SCHOOL LEVY: Vote yes

I had the pleasure of being one of the many who were audience members of the Coeur d’Alene High School Theatre Department production of “Frozen.” It made me happy to see the high school students so happy.

It took me on a brief trip down memory lane to my days in high school when I was on stage with my classmates. I thought to myself, what a shame it would be if I hadn’t had the self-confidence/self-esteem boosting experience that high school theater gave me. My mind then went to my two adult children and what great experiences they had participating in high school sports and extracurricular activities. Both theater and sports are extracurricular activities, I don’t see them as “extra,” I see them as an essential component of the core along with reading, writing and arithmetic that enables our kids to evolve into successful adults.

Without the levy, extracurricular activities will be cut. Consider voting YES on the Coeur d’Alene school levy on May 16 for the sake of giving kids the same opportunities in high school that you and I had. These extracurricular activities that the levy funds may be the key that unlocks the door for many to succeed as adults.
