BONNERS FERRY — The Tigers and Badgers tuned up for their upcoming best-of-3 series for the 3A District 1 title next week with a pitchers’ duel in their Intermountain League finale.

Trey Bateman pitched a two-hit shutout for Bonners Ferry (16-6), and Caden Robinett struck out 13, walked none and allowed five hits for Timberlake (9-11).

Trey Bateman went 3 for 3 with an RBI double in the first inning for Bonners, which took advantage of a Timberlake error to add two more runs in the fourth.

"Trey did a lot of work today," Bonners Ferry coach Tom Turpin said. "And Robinett, he was bringing it today."

Monday’s game, the fifth league meeting of the season between the two teams, was designed as a de facto tiebreaker. But since Bonners Ferry had already won three of the first four meetings with the Tigers, the Badgers had already earned the right to host next week’s district championship series. Games are scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, and Thursday if necessary, all at 5 p.m. in Bonners.
