COEUR TERRE: Good news and bad news

| March 26, 2023 1:00 AM

Good news, next city council election vote for Dan Gookin and Christie Wood. Bad news, vote the other members out.

Over many citizens’ objections, the Coeur Terre project was approved. 2,800 new homes, which most people cannot afford. It would include 5% to be affordable housing. That means there will be only 140 that are affordable. Who is to decide what affordable means?

The build up is expected to be from 20-30 years from now, yet all those city council members who voted for it will be dead by then, so not their problem.

Nothing was said about the increased traffic, widening the roads, signals, but who cares, certainly not them. I did not see where it added more doctors and nurses. Try to get a doctor’s appointment within a few weeks right now, good luck. Adding over another 100,000 people won’t impact us at all.

The argument is we need more housing, who says we do? Why do we need to fill up every space, why do we need solid bumper to bumper traffic? Why more schools that we cannot afford to maintain, more levies?

It’s simple, if we do not have more housing, then they will go somewhere else. Idaho is a big state. Which begs the question, why does it have to be here?

Once again the government and elected officials are not paying attention to its citizens.
