PREP BASEBALL: No-hitter, but no win yet for Trojans in Boise

| March 25, 2023 1:15 AM

BOISE — It was a gem.

Not sharp or flashy by any means for junior left-hander Austin DeBoer, but something to build on.

As for the result, it was still a setback.

DeBoer and junior Danny Devoren combined on a no-hitter for the Trojans, who fell short to the Timberline Wolves 3-2 in a game in the Buck’s Bags Tournament on Friday night.

Timberline’s first two hitters walked and came around to score on a walk and ground out in the first inning. The Wolves added another run on a fielders choice in the second.

“Austin kind of struggled early, but figured it out,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “He threw really well after that first inning.”

Tyler French doubled and scored in the sixth inning, his second hit of the game for Post Falls.

The game was delayed by an hour due to early morning snow pushing back start times around the area.

“We got the bats going late and were putting some stuff together,” said Reese, whose team put the tying run on base in the seventh before the runner was thrown out trying to steal second. “Timberline just manufactured some runs early. We started a little sluggish, but woke up in the fourth.”

Post Falls (1-3) is scheduled to conclude the tournament today at Capital High in Boise.

“This is why we came down here to compete and see some of the teams from the south,” Reese said. “We wanted to come down here and try to get some wins, and hopefully, we can do that if we can play.”
