Ray Marcus Hansen, 93

| March 24, 2023 1:00 AM

After a long and blessed life, Ray Marcus Hansen went home to be with the Lord last week. He was born June 15, 1929, to Mary and Adolph Hansen in Scobey, Mont. In 1937, the Hansens moved to Idaho, settling in Turner Bay on Lake Coeur d’Alene before moving to Hayden in 1943, where Ray would spend the next 80 years. After graduating from Rathdrum High School in 1947, Ray served in the National Guard and Air Force.

On Dec. 31, 1955, Ray married Clara Jean Purcell, whom he had known since childhood. During their 67 years of marriage, Ray and Jean raised four children and became grandparents 15 times over.

After working as a log scaler for 40 years, Ray retired from Idaho Veneer. Ray enjoyed woodworking, reading, hunting and raising cattle. He was also known to grow an ear of corn or two. Family, friends and neighbors will remember Ray as a hard-working man who loved to visit with just about anyone.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Kenneth and Lyle; sisters Betty and Clarice; son Gregory Ray Hansen; and son-in-law Tom Stafford.

Ray is survived by his devoted wife, Jean; daughters Theresa Deckert (Jeff) and Sheila Stafford; son Michael Hansen (Kristi); sister Darlene; and 15 grandchildren, Matt, Jonathan, Autumn, Karen, Larisa, Keith, Ray, Clint, Mark, Geoff, Jared, Paul, Meadow, Kelly and Joseph; several nieces and nephews and many great-grandchildren.

Ray’s memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Hayden Bible Fellowship (9650 N. Government Way Hayden, ID 83835). Please visit Ray’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
