PREP TRACK AND FIELD: No rest required for Cogley at Lewiston invite

LEWISTON — Breaks, who needs them?

Lake City senior Trevor Cogley didn’t on Thursday afternoon.

Cogley, who verbally committed to run track at Boise State last week, won the 400 in 49.59 seconds, then minutes later claimed the 100-meter dash in 11.46 at the Lewiston Invitational at Sweeney Track.

“He had a couple of minutes in between, but not much,” Lake City coach Kelly Reed said. “I don’t remember a kid doing that since they switched the meet schedule in 2012. He’s just running well right now. He’s been training since last season and that work is paying off.”

Post Falls swept team titles, with the boys edging Moscow by a half-point. Post Falls finished with 137 points to win the girls title.

“The kids did really well today,” Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell said. “It was a real competitive track meet with a lot of good marks.”

Post Falls sophomore Trenton McLean won the high jump with a top mark of 6 feet, 4 inches.

“He came into today thinking that 6-foot would be nice,” Quesnell said. “Then he went out and jumped 6-4, which was a big PR for him.”

Senior Georgia Whitehead was part of the Timberwolf girls winning 4x100 relay team, and also finished third in the 300 hurdles.

“It was her first time in the hurdles and to finish third, just shows how phenomenal she is,” Reed said. “She’s been putting in work in the weight room and is really strong right now. I was really happy with her today.”

Coeur d'Alene sweeps

dual with Lakeland

RATHDRUM — Coeur d’Alene junior Lachlan May notched wins in the 800 and 1,600, as well as in the 4x400 relay in a dual win over the Hawks at Lakeland High.

Coeur d’Alene won the boys dual 91-55 and the girls 103-42.

Both schools return to action at the Kootenai County Challenge on April 7 at Timberlake High.
