NIC: Legal move shows bad actors, intentions

| March 24, 2023 1:00 AM

I’m not quite sure how to both sigh heavily AND roll my eyes in print…just assume I am doing both. I read, with a heavy heart, the article today about the NIC Board of Trustees bloc and their interim lawyer initiating a lawsuit to reverse the court ruling to reinstate NIC President Nick Swayne. As a 17-year NIC faculty, the move is gut wrenching, but regrettably — not a surprise. That the spurious suit will be heard on March 31, the day NIC submits our final letter to the NWCCU about our “progress” addressing the 26 sanctions of the Show Cause seems prophetic. I can think of no way these four bad actors could more clearly show the NWCCU that they do not now, nor have they ever, had any intention of addressing these sanction areas. To do so in any substantive way would be in contradiction to their ultimate goal: to close NIC.

I don’t have the space here to enumerate the fallacies, fictions and out-right lies of this suit. But I will respond to one egregious issue: Dr. Greg South — the board appointed interim president stated that “he was not aware of a strategic plan in development for NIC.” As one of dozens of NIC faculty and staff who worked for years on NIC’s Integrated Strategic Plan — just search “Strategic Plan” on the NIC website…and there it is…in all its intricate detail and description…for ANYONE to see.
