POST FALLS — Senior Jayden Butler hit a line drive into the left-center gap, causing the Bear outfielders to collide and resulting in a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, sparking a seven-run inning as the Post Falls Trojans battled past the Moscow Bears 13-7 in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader at Post Falls High on Tuesday.

“That hit kind of sparked our bats a little bit,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said of the play, adding that both players were uninjured and remained in the game. “Thankfully nobody was injured. For the first time outside, it took a little bit to get our bats going. Once it happened, the flood gates opened and our bats got going, which was nice to see.”

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was halted due to darkness in the bottom of the second inning with Moscow leading 3-2.

Austin DeBoer, Jake Bustamante and Isaac Ziegler drove in two runs each for Post Falls, which trailed 4-1 after three innings before scoring 10 unanswered to take the lead.

Post Falls will compete in the Buck’s Bags Tournament starting Thursday against Middleton and Borah on Thursday at Borah High.

“Jake had a great day at the plate and was seeing the ball really well,” Reese said. “We had decent approaches, but we’ve got a lot to work on after this game.”
