SOFTBALL

Timberlake 13

East Valley 3

SPOKANE VALLEY — Logan Walsh doubled three times and drove in five runs, and Jesi Kitchin was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored as the visiting Tigers beat the Knights in nonleague play.

Leadoff hitter Allilah Dykes, who missed the first three games with an ankle injury, made her season debut and went 2 for 2 with two walks and four runs scored. Kitchin, who led off in the first three games, dropped to the No. 2 spot, and Walsh hits third.

“I wasn’t sure at beginning of the year how it was going to work out, but this lineup worked pretty well,” Timberlake coach Casi Lupinacci said. “Allilah is a lefty slapper that we brought up at the end of last year. She just gets on and she’s fast, and she creates a lot chaos. I told her, ‘That’s your job — create chaos.’ Jesi is just a consistent hitter, she hit No. 5 last year, but she’s so consistent I just assume she’s going to get on. And we have Logan behind her, and she’s an amazing hitter.”

Casey Whaley struck out nine in five innings for Timberlake (3-1), giving up just one run over the final four innings.

“She settled in and threw really well after that,” Lupinacci said of the first inning.

Eight of Timberlake’s 12 hits were doubles.

Alycia Cameron was 3 for 4 with three doubles and an RBI and three runs scored for Timberlake, which plays a doubleheader at Lake City today at 3 p.m. The games were moved up from Thursday due to the threat of inclement weather.
