LEWISTON — For the first time, it was a great time for both Post Falls seniors Capri Sims and Annastasia Peters on Friday at the season-opening Sweeney Invitational.

Trojan Capri Sims broke the school record in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 2.5 inches, then Peters eclipsed the school record in the 3,200-meter run in 11 minutes, 33.29 seconds. Peters broke the record of Sammie Wood (11:34.64 in 2022), while Sims topped the mark set by Cassie Burnett (40-1 ½) set in 2005.

“It wasn’t like Capri just hit one big throw, she was just consistent all day,” Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell said. “And for Anna to come out this early and break that record, and she had to run a really good race to break that, it was good to see from them both.”

Post Falls junior Taycen Genatone notched wins in the 110-meter hurdles and the long jump, helping the Trojan boys claim the team title with 144 points, followed by host Lewiston with 122.5.

Post Falls also claimed the girls title with 151.5 points.

Lake City senior Trevor Cogley, who recently committed to Boise State, won the boys 200 and 400.

Coeur d’Alene junior Lachlan May won the boys 800 and 1,600. Viking senior Kytriana Burrell won the 100 and 200.

Timberlake splits

at Fruitland tourney

FRUITLAND — Caden Robinett struck out five over 6 ⅔ innings for Timberlake in a 3-1 win over Weiser in the Bill Betts Tournament on Friday at Fruitland High.

Grant Allaway, who was hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, came around to score on an RBI single by Jesse O’Connor to give Timberlake a 1-0 lead.

Later, Allaway struck out seven for the Tigers, who were shut out by Fruitland 3-0 to fall to 1-2 in the tournament.

Cooper Lenz had two hits for Timberlake (1-3) against Fruitland.

“After the first two innings (Thursday), our pitching really has been phenomenal,” said Timberlake coach Bryce Johnson, whose team fell behind to Sugar-Salem 6-1 before losing 7-4 on Thursday. “Caden did a good job of keeping Weiser off balance and Grant pitched really, really well against a good hitting team. Against Fruitland, we were just missing that one key hit and we’ll get better as the season goes on.”

Max Vidlak struck out five for Fruitland.

Timberlake concludes the tournament against New Plymouth today at 9:30 a.m.
