NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals sweep in conference opener

PENDLETON, Ore. — Sophomore Reiss McIntyre hit a grand slam in the third inning of the first game for North Idaho College in a 12-4 win over Blue Mountain in the Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both on Friday.

Freshman Hayden Rockwell and Madelynne Hommel drove in two runs each for NIC in the opener.

In the nightcap, Emma Todhunter hit a two-run home run and Hattie Imbler-Bremner followed with a solo shot in the Cardinals 7-1 win to get the sweep.

Kennedy Hobson and Kate Banks each struck out six for the Cardinals (7-4, 2-0), who travel to Ontario, Ore., to face Treasure Valley in a doubleheader today at 11 a.m.

Blue Mountain is 2-7-1, 0-2.
