SCHOOL LEVIES: Should pay for food, too

I am a senior who has appreciated the many letters expressing opinions about the upcoming school levies election. We readers have been given enough information to make a thoughtful, informed choice. One thing that bothers me about the $25 million levy is that while it funds music, art, sports equipment, buses, nurses, security and much more, it excludes food.

It’s disturbing to imagine some youngsters sitting in the cafeteria watching others eat, and some sleeping during lunch hour because they can’t pay for their food. Free lunch for anyone used to be the rule and I consider it important. Let’s find a way to add healthy food to the schools’ many other projected freebies.
