LIBRARIES: Serve many purposes

“I love the library” my son said as we entered the library so I could check out self-help books. Yes, I could buy the books instead, and that’s because I have a career. An occupation I have because of a college degree I obtained. A degree that allowed me to commission into the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and help others. The truth is, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve that if it had not been for our local libraries. I had scholarships and grants for college, but they didn’t cover the cost of a computer, Wi-Fi, or a place to study.

Fortunately for me, the community libraries did provide all of that. Many years later, I am improving myself with the assistance of our libraries. I know many others who also find benefit in what our libraries offer. Whether it be students advancing their knowledge, cancer warriors receiving fellowship and encouragement during the Evening of Hope meetings, community members socializing during Coffee & Coloring events, or adults practicing free yoga at the Hayden library. So why do some people not support our libraries? Because of Christianity? Then go to the library, check out a Holy Bible, and read Titus chapter 3. Because of patriotism? Then check out The Constitution and read the First Amendment. Because this letter is poorly written? I am working on that by attending the River City Writers group at the Post Falls library. I support our libraries for many reasons. In fact, I too love the library.
