LEVIES: Call for tax burden to be shifted back to state

In the mid 1970s, my parents were literally “taxed out of their house.” The same thing is happening to me now. I’ve lived in the same home for 32 years and the assessed value increase in the spring of 2022 was a staggering 63 percent. That means all taxing agencies can take 63 percent more without changing their tax rates. I’m a retired widow on a fixed income. I can’t afford it. Many senior citizens face the same dilemma. Please vote against all education levy requests. Instead, please write the governor, your state senators and your state representatives and plead with them to put public school funding back on the state, where it used to be before the burden was shifted over to local property owners in 2006.
