CDA SCHOOL LEVIES: Student worries about levies failing

I am a concerned Lake City High School student writing to express my strong support for the March 14 Coeur d’Alene Schools supplemental levy. My favorite part about Lake City is all of the opportunities given to the students. I am very involved in the school — I’m currently the sophomore class president on our student council, a member of our debate team, an honors student taking multiple Advanced Placement classes, and have been on the soccer, cross country, wrestling and track teams — and I’m not alone: My teammates, classmates and friends would be greatly affected if the levy fails. Most, if not all of these activities, and many more, would be scaled back if not removed completely.

These parts of Lake City (and other schools) are not just bells and whistles — they are critical aspects that make it worth attending.

Extracurriculars like debate, student council and sports let me practice leadership, public speaking and make friends at school.

Some of my core classes don’t even have a seat for every student. If the levy fails, we could see 8-10 more students per class.

Recently, a Lake City student took their own life, and this levy funds our mental health programs.

I’ve become a better person because of having such opportunities, and I’m worried for my little brother and the rest of the incoming class that may not be given them.

Idaho is wonderful, Coeur d’Alene is wonderful, and I think it shows our pride to keep our schools funded.
