CDA SCHOOL LEVIES: Changes needed first

Last Friday, it was a pleasure to meet our superintendent, Dr. Hocker with his heart for school.

However, Dr. Hocker may need to take a course in math.

When I spoke to him about the levies, he responded that there was “no way” my levies would increase by 73% or $650 from 2021 to 2023 (before 2023 re-assessments).

His finance officer, Shannon concurred to his amazement they would.

(Every 7 1/2 years, 10% of my home value would be spent for school tax.)

A fall election with 3X the voters would be a more accurate vote. Dr. Nelson, assistant superintendent, said that’s not how the “game” is played and if voters did not show in March that was their fault.

The school levy ad on Facebook offered comments. The communications officer, Jon Mahn, said they fact checked and “Hid” those they found in err — censorship no doubt.

If the school district will sell their lavish admin building, limit support staff (teachers make up less than half of employees), eliminate indoctrinating and micromanaging curriculum, cut spousal benefits, change to an HSA health plan, add the new state money promised, they would be able to raise teacher salaries and balance the budget.

ONLY after making these changes should we consider a levy.
