PF SCHOOL LEVY: Vote yes

I am a concerned senior citizen writing in support of the Post Falls School District Levy. I have lived in Kootenai County for 25 years. I am a retired teacher and even though I have no children or grandchildren in the district, I know how important it is to have a strong viable school district to support the children in our community. Investing in education is the responsibility of not only parents, but the entire community. A strong school system can help to create responsible future citizens.

This levy has two parts. The first is a replacement of the current levy. This $4.9 million levy pays for curriculum, transportation, extra-curricular activities, KTEC and competitive salaries for all employees. The second part of the levy is for $1 million to address security concerns. This will pay for additional School Resource Officers and security deans. It will be used to create secure vestibules and controlled access at all schools and to replace aging security cameras. It is a sad reality that these measures are an absolute necessity.

Given the tremendous growth in our area, the passage of this levy will not increase property taxes. Growth means that the cost of the levy is spread out among more property owners.
