NIC’s HISTORY OF LEADERSHIP: What has happened?

A couple of historic NIC leaders would be rolling in their graves to see what is going on at present. As a longtime educator, Dr. G.O. Kildow, was not only the college’s president for 16 years, but he was the president of the American Association of Junior Colleges and Northwest Association of Junior Colleges, adhering to the highest of accreditation standards. He also had the honor of being listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Education, Who’s Who in the West.

Kildow, a World War I veteran, WSU graduate, a research chemist, and an educator of chemistry and physics worked for years with the community to provide post high school educational opportunities. He worked well with Edgar Seiter, longtime chairman of the NICJC Board. Seiter was a successful businessman, Post Falls mayor and civic leader. These men worked hand in hand to promote educational opportunities and training for area students of all ages.

We are so fortunate to have their example. These men lived through a couple of world wars, and the Great Depression. They worked to leave something for our community to build upon. History can be inspirational, if we know it, share it and learn from it. Building is harder than tearing down.

These NIC leaders left their footsteps as guideposts for the future. Kildow wrote: “What you do for yourself, dies with you. What you do for others, lives on forever.”
