LIBRARY, NIC: Do we believe in idea of America?

Oh, the irony. Yesterday I attended the board meeting at the Coeur d’Alene library. I expressed my fears about the subject of censorship and the first amendment of our Constitution. Others seem to want certain materials censored in the library. At least I think that’s their point. Their attire suggested their devotion to the Second Amendment. That’s the irony. I think between the dedicated staff, parents and policies currently in place many concerns they expressed can be addressed. Unfortunately we’re so polarized that people talk at each other, not with each other.

After the library meeting, I went to the NIC meeting. Many of those that made comments before the board expressed concern about the possible loss of accreditation. Even the board majority no longer refers to this issue as “fake news.” Real people can and will be adversely affected. Of the many people I have talked to about NIC, they all want to know what the board’s end game is. They ask but are met with silence. Someone said, “If they won’t tell you, it can’t be good.”

So I am left to look toward KCRCC. Brent Regan writes articles in The Press often. So based on what he says and what the Idaho Republican Platform says, it won’t be good. If you are in this very exclusive club and buy into what they say, great, but if you’re not, well, tough. Read Sholeh Patrick’s piece of Feb. 21. Do we truly believe in the idea of America?
