KOVACS: Needs to be held responsible for his actions

Incompetent Assessor asking for taxpayers to pay his legal fees. Assessor Bela Kovacs has the nerve to start a fundraising account asking taxpayers to help pay his legal fees. He was deemed incompetent by more than 70% of his staff who submitted a vote of no confidence in March 2022 and by the Kootenai County Commissioners’ unanimous vote to slash his pay in half for his lack of ability to perform his duties. He has lost employees by the drove including two chief deputies in less than two years he has been in office.

Last week two more key employees left due to his lack of leadership and competence. Kovacs does not take any responsibility for any of this. It’s always someone else at fault so he thinks it’s the responsibility of the taxpayers to make up for it?

Well guess what folks, your assessor, Bela Kovacs, is already taking money out of your pockets. His failure to meet deadlines and hiring outside companies to make up for his short falls is costing the county (i.e. the taxpayers of Kootenai County) hundreds of thousands of dollars already with nothing to show for it. Taxpayers are struggling enough without putting money into a narcissist who thinks he has done nothing wrong and is owed compensation to help him out of a self-induced situation.

He was asked to step down. He refused. His pay is cut in half so he sues the county. He plays the victim and throws the computer system, IT, staff, other elected officials and the State Tax Commission under the bus saying it was their fault he didn’t succeed. Unfortunately this tyrant was elected by an uninformed community. Don’t throw good money after a swine. Look into the allegations against Kovacs. It’s time to make him take responsibility for his actions.
