HOMEOWNERS: Insurance costs going up

It occurs to me that folks may not be aware of the increase in homeowners insurance costs, that are also impacting house payments, along with increased property taxes.

I recently got notice of my Homeowners Declarations. The annual premium went from $765/year to $1,068/year.

My insurance agent was unable to find a comparable policy at a lower cost, for A Plus coverage, which would rebuild my home should fire destroy it.

My home was built in 1906, so many companies aren’t even writing policies for homes this old, even though mine has been in the family since 1933 and never had a claim.

Apparently, the costs associated with construction are a main reason for these increases. Along with shouldering costs for those who build in disaster zones, like hurricanes.

It’s a sad state of affairs for us retired folks, but I am thankful for the Circuit Breaker assistance, making it possible to continue to live in the home I’ve loved my whole life.
