Kenneth 'Ken' A. Korczyk, 74

| June 25, 2023 1:00 AM

Kenneth “Ken” A. Korczyk passed away June 17, 2023, surrounded by family in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, at Schneidmiller Hospice House. Born in Detroit, Mich., on March 8, 1949, to Frank Jr. and Mary Jane Korczyk, he grew up in Livonia, Mich., and was a passionate Detroit sports fan. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1967 and Michigan State University in 1971.

Ken settled in Coeur d’Alene in 1974, leaving only to pursue his master’s in vocational rehabilitation from the University of Idaho and to trek around the world with his first wife, Barbara. From his early Cd’A days, forming lifelong friendships on a local softball league, to revitalizing the Hangover Handicap Fun Run with Tesh, Inc., to his years of selfless service as a board member for CASA, Dirne Health Centers (Heritage Health) and Art on the Green, Ken was the guy everyone wanted on their team. He did the right thing even when no one was looking, exuded empathy for others, and connected people and purposes to the betterment of our community. His generous heart, belief in others — especially the underdog and devotion to nonprofit work lent themselves well to a 26-year career as CEO of Tesh, Inc., and to his administrative retirement role at Hospice of North Idaho.

Ken was active throughout his life as a runner and ardent tennis, baseball, and softball player. He loved every sport as a participant, coach, and fan, and he never saw a box score he didn’t absorb. We often joked that his epitaph would read, “Just checking the scores”.

Ken demonstrated complete love for his friends and family. He was a compassionate, caring and devoted husband, father, brother, Poppi, uncle and friend. Ken always showed up. His steady presence, kindness and humor are, and will be, dearly missed.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Roz Korczyk; children Stephanie Korczyk, Michael (Emily) Korczyk, Tyler (Katie) Livingston, Colin (April) Livingston and Gayle (Steven) LaCroix; four grandchildren; his siblings. Suzanne (Jerome) Rapin, Tom (Ann) Korczyk, Terry (Diane) Korczyk, Mary Lynn (Rick) Miller and Margaret (Joe) Mitra; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew; his parents; and his granddaughter, Zoe.

A celebration of life will be held Aug. 20, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Lake City Senior Center, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken’s memory to Hospice of North Idaho.
