POST FALLS — The Fit and Fall Proof program in Post Falls has found a place to land.
The Post Falls Church of the Nazarene at 308 W. 12th Ave. has stepped up to house the program, which will have its final day Monday at the Post Falls Senior Center. The church is only about 2 miles northwest of the senior center, making it a convenient, nearby location and seamless transition for the Fit and Fall Proof folks.
"We just want to make sure we can serve as many older adults in the community," said Post Falls Church of the Nazarene pastor Ken Osso. "Having partnerships with other organizations is also super important, for the church and the senior center."
Fit and Fall Proof, facilitated through Panhandle Health District, has about a dozen sites throughout Kootenai County, including senior centers, libraries and North Idaho College.
Program coordinator Carolyn Jaeger of Panhandle Health said she had been trying to find a new location for the Post Falls program for several months and had an appointment to meet with the church the afternoon of June 14. It was at that meeting Osso and the church agreed to take on the program. A few finalizations have since been completed.
"It was in the works," Jaeger said. "He was very excited to partner, to get more involved in the community and initiate the partnership with Panhandle Health."
The Fit and Fall Proof program has been at the senior center for several years, but is displaced as the building undergoes renovations to also house the Post Falls Food Bank. As many as 30 people participate in the free program, held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
It's a light-to-intermediate exercise regime for all ages to stay agile and build strength to help with balance and coordination.
Roberta Cutsinger, participant and lead assistant, said it's wonderful Osso and the church are opening their doors to Fit and Fall Proof.
"I’m very pleased with the community response,” she said. "I’m pleased it appears we’re going to have a place where we can have a permanent home."
