WHALEN: Views sound familiar

I know and respect people who consider themselves traditional Republicans. That description distinguishes them from RINOs (Republicans in name only), the current Republican leadership’s term for those with whom they disagree. Traditional Republicans advocate conservative values not extremist views. It is my understanding that the North Idaho Republicans were formed to reject that extremism.

Mr. Whalen’s article claims the reason for extremists’ domination is the Democratic Party and the influx of newcomers. He suggests we must push back against “woke,” Democratic party racism, critical race theory and similar alleged affronts to freedom and the constitution. How does that attitude differ from the current extremist Republican party? Republican precinct chairs were elected but not by Democrats. The writer claims we are doing great so what’s the problem? Our community has some serious issues.

Using our heads for thinking is a better option. Recognizing that and finding solutions rather than fixing blame and casting dispersions on those with whom we disagree is a more logical choice. Mr. Whalen I don’t understand why you wish to create a new Republican Party. Your views sound very familiar to those of the current extremists. Perhaps you are a better fit staying put. Giving a new label to extremism is no less extreme.
