Verla Nagrone, 94

| July 23, 2023 1:00 AM

Verla Mae Nagrone, 94, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family at the Hospice House of North Idaho on July 18, 2023.

She was born to William and Anna Engelhardt on Oct. 5, 1928, in Garrison, N.D., where she lived prior to moving to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with her family at the age of 9. Verla later attended cosmetology school and went on to open her own hair salon on Fourth Street. This is where she would eventually cross paths with her future soulmate, Ed Nagrone, who had brought his mother in for a haircut. The two married Jan. 3, 1959, at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene and would go on to have four beautiful children together.

Verla had a giggle that would spread, and a smile that could light up any room. She had a heart of gold, she cherished her loved ones dearly and was sure to never let any animals go hungry. One of her favorite pastimes was having large family get-togethers where she would often make her famous potato salad. Verla enjoyed reading, puzzling and bowling, and her personality left an imprint on all that she met.

She is survived by her children; Cynthia, Kevin (Terri), Lisa Fencl (John) and Thomas (Brenda); seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Verla is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ed Nagrone, and her sister, Vera Jacobson.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2023, starting at 10 a.m. The service will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 919 E. Indiana Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with the burial following at the St. Thomas Cemetery.

English Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with her final arrangements.
