GUN CONTROL: Dayton letter not accurate

Ron Dayton (June 30) argues that "a well-armed militia is just a term used by our forefathers as a hedge against the British and not needed for any other reason." That is inaccurate. The basis of the Second Amendment was for an armed populace that could defend against any tyranny including one that might be formed in the new United States of America. That concept might arguably be passé as Joe Biden points out, he has F-15s. The same concept that we have a government "of the people, by the people, and for the people" might also be passé as we morph into a government "of the media, by the media, for those entrenched in power."
