DAYTON: Wrong about gun rights

Regarding Ron Dayton's letter concerning the Second Amendment, gun control and a Well Armed (sic) Militia published June 30, he argues this amendment was meant to protect us from the Brits. Our military is there to protect us from "havoc." Last time I checked the military cannot be used against its own citizens.

How is it going in those big city paradises like Chicago, Detroit and St. Louis with the most restrictive gun laws in the country? I just don't understand why those gangs just don't follow the law.

In the 2008 case District of Columbia v. Heller, the Supreme Court held that the "Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home."

Yes, some people don't appreciate our freedoms. First Amendment allows you and I to write these letters. There are those who would not want The Press to publish them because it doesn't fit their narrative. They would pick and choose which rights are the "right" rights.

Trump, Hitler and Putin are doing the "work of the devil." You forgot to add Madison, Washington, Jefferson, etc.
