COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen AA team got off to a rough start Friday on the first day of the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Wood Bat Classic.

The Lums lost 8-0 to the Parkland Twins Academy of Spruce Grove, Alberta, then fell to North Idaho League rival Lewis-Clark Twins 5-4 in their first two games of pod play at Thorco Field.

In the first game, the Lums were held to four hits against Parkland.

The Lums and Parkland were scoreless before Parkland scored four runs in the sixth inning, helped by four hits and two Coeur d’Alene errors. In the seventh, Parkland took advantage of three walks to score four runs.

Against Lewis-Clark, Caden Robinett and Owen Benson combined for 11 strikeouts for Coeur d’Alene, which jumped out to an early lead, but the Twins made the most of their seven hits to score five runs.

The Lums jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Kyle Bridge tripled with one out, and scored on an Eric Bumbaugh single. Cooper Erickson singled with two out to score Bumbaugh, and Jesse Brown scored on a passed ball.

Chris Ricard hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first for Lewis-Clark. He finished 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs.

Bridge’s sacrifice fly in the second increased Coeur d’Alene’s lead to 4-2.

The Twins tied it in the bottom half, then Ricard singled with one out in the third, and scored on a two-out single by Kyson Barden for what turned out to be the game’s final run.

Today, the Lums (12-10) are scheduled to play the Withnell Dodgers at 4:30 and the NW 509 All-Stars at 7 to conclude pod play.
