Cardinals go 2-1 at

Apodaca Duals

POWELL, Wyo. — The Cardinals finished the Apodaca Duals 2-1, beating Iowa Central 29-12 before falling to Western Wyoming 30-13 at Northwest College.

On Friday, NIC beat Northwest 32-17 to open the tournament.

Brant Porter went 3-0 on the weekend for NIC at 141 pounds.

NIC competes in the West District Championships on Feb. 12 at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Ore.

COEUR d’ALENE — Sophomore forward Julius Mims had 19 points and five rebounds for top-ranked North Idaho College in a 92-72 win over Yakima Valley in a Northwest Athletic Conference game at Rolly Williams Court on Saturday.

Freshman guard Kamryn Thomas had 19 points and three steals off the bench for NIC (19-0, 7-0 NWAC), which had its game on Wednesday postponed to Feb. 13 due to COVID regulations at Wenatchee Valley.

Jamon Kemp scored 17 points for Yakima Valley (7-10, 4-4).

NIC hosts Big Bend on Wednesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Addie Kiefer, a freshman from Lakeland High, had 22 points and five rebounds for the Cardinals in a Northwest Athletic Conference loss to the Yaks at Rolly Williams Court.

“She was really the benefactor of being in the right place at the right time today,” NIC coach Nathan Covill said. “When we put ourselves in position to attack the basket, her consistent work and being relentless on the glass has been great. She just continues to get better.”

Taylor Newman and Aliyah French scored 19 points each for Yakima Valley (7-11, 4-4 NWAC), which shot 23 of 30 from the free-throw line. NIC was 15 of 25 from the line.

NIC hosts Big Bend on Wednesday. Big Bend beat NIC in the first matchup on Jan. 11 in Moses Lake, Wash.

“It’s a big game for us,” Covill said. “We need to take care business to put ourselves in a position to compete in the postseason.”
