REAL LIFE: Letter writing to ‘air grievances’ not Christian behavior

| January 27, 2023 1:00 AM

This letter is in response to Erika Willy, who wrote regarding Real Life Ministries in Post Falls on Jan. 25. I cannot let accusations like hers go unchallenged. I did not see the original post by “Dayton” that she refers to. I do not attend that church, but my daughter and her family do.

She talks about the “self-righteousness, nepotism and condemnation” from the church leadership but offers no evidence to support her statement. She says the community support offered by that leadership is “embedded with self-importance and extreme judgment.” It sounds to me that she didn’t like being told that she needs to stop doing whatever made her need the outreach. She didn’t like being told that following Jesus means changing and no longer following the world, but picking up your cross to follow Jesus (Matthew 16:24-26).

Unsupported defamation is not a Christian act. Writing to a newspaper to air your grievances isn’t biblical at all. The Bible instructs believers to go to the person you have an issue with on your own. If they won’t listen, then bring 2-3 other believers with you. (Matthew 18:15-20) I have a feeling the writer either isn’t a Christian or is a progressive Christian who listens to the world rather than the words of Christ. It’s not easy to be a Christian and follow Christ fully and some people don’t want to go to the effort to do it.
