HOUSING CRISIS: Rent limits needed for out-of-state landlords

The obscene aspect of out-of-state owners jacking up rents is typical here in Coeur d’Alene, increasing homelessness.

As a former homeless veteran whom knows what it is like, there’s only one word for those whom care less about Idaho’s increasing homeless rates.

Shameful.

All the while the Idaho State Legislature refuses to address out of control rent costs.

Those rent increases don’t benefit Idaho.

On the obverse, they line the pockets of those whom care not for the long-term residents in this community.

In essence, out-of-state property owners are flipping the middle finger at Coeur d’Alene and the state of Idaho, knowing no one in Boise will do anything about it.

Idaho needs to grow some backbone, initiate and enforce rent rate limits on out-of-state property owners to allow the homegrown Idahoans and the elderly to have a place that is theirs.

That has to change.

Predatory leasing has now become the norm in Idaho, and that practice under federal statute is illegal.

Perhaps Idaho should quickly act before other powers force Idaho to comply with equal housing rights.
