Dorothy Herting, 96

Dorothy Herting of Coeur d'Alene passed away Jan. 19 at Ivory Court in Coeur d'Alene.

She was born May 14, 1926, to Scott and Hortenuse Mathews of Humboldt, Tenn. Dot received her education and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1944.

In 1945, she married Arnold Herting in Tennessee after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army Air Force. They moved to Wolf Point, Mont., where they farmed with Arnold's father John Herting. In 1958, they had a son, Scott.

Dot also worked at the Western National Bank as a teller and escrow officer for years until she retired. In 1984, she and Arnold moved to Kalispell, Mont., to be near family and the Flathead Valley they loved.

After Arnold passed away in 1992, she moved to Coeur d'Alene to be closer to family. She was an active member and volunteer of the Lutheran Church for many years. Mom crafted quilts at church for various Outreach needs in the community.

Dot was a vibrant member of the Rambling Rovers travel group. She and her friend Lenore helped plan excursions for senior citizens in the area for several years.

Mom will always be remembered for her smile, warmth, and consideration of others. She always had a genuine concern for family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by son Scott Herting and his wife, Terri, and two grandchildren, Aaron and Chelsea.

Memorial services to be held at Peace Lutheran Church Friday, Jan. 27 at 10:30 a.m.
