Dean LeRoy Hubbard, 93

Dean passed away Jan. 20, 2023, at Hospice House, with family at his side.

Dean was born May 4, 1929, in Rapid City, S.D. to Hannah (Bender) and Max Hubbard.

He was raised by his mother and sister after his father passed when Dean was 7. He grew up in Scottsbluff, Neb., until he joined the Army-Airforce in 1946. Served as a Cryptographic Technician-Teletype Operator in Japan for three years.

After returning home in Nebraska he met his future wife, Betty. After they were married, they moved to Denver, Colo., where he went to watch maker school.

In the years to come he worked as a watch maker and jeweler in Cheyenne, Wyo.; Denver, Colo.; and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

When they moved to Spirit Lake, Idaho, in 1974, they built a log cabin and he did watch repair in the basement. He worked for Clarks Jewelers for years and other jewelers in the area, repairing watches and clocks. He helped develop the Spirit Lake Volunteer Fire Department with Ed Hoffman. He was a member of the Lions Club.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, and second wife Grace. Survived by his daughters Sandra Peterson and Harriet Campanella, Sister Marilyn Downing, Niece Claudia, and nephew Max. Four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way. We would like to thank Hospice of North Idaho for their amazing care. No memorial services will be performed.
