Lois Marie Hanson, 80, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away Jan. 15, 2023. Marie was born Jan. 9, 1943, in Port Orchard, Wash., to Raymond and Deane North (deceased), and joined sister Kathryn (deceased) and brother David. Marie is survived by her brother, David, and wife Sandy; daughter Sindy Plummer and husband Jeff; and daughter Susie Gerbitz and husband Lynx. Marie married Gary Hanson in 1983 and is survived by him and daughter Cindy Ann Hanson. Marie also leaves behind cousins Chester North, Nesha North and Luella Smith; nephew Jared (Shelly); niece Jessica Benson (Matt); their children, Luke, Elese, Angela, Lev, and Natalie; grandchildren Jamie Russette (Aimee) and their children, Brooklyn and London; Mariah Russette and her daughter, Daisy; Tyler Pierson; Cayla Hannon (Ryan) and their child, Crosby.

Marie was known in the community for 30 years for all-occasion cakes, child care for nine years at His Place Church of Post Falls, volunteered at nursing homes, and cared for the elderly in their homes. She started Neighborhood Watch on her block and women’s in-home prayer groups. In the early '90s, with the help of churches, she had 84 blocks being walked weekly with prayer. Earlier, she and her sister put out the first Post Falls Shopper. Marie led the first drill team as a baton twirler, plus first girl’s debate team. With Marvene Grant, she took second in State debate for B Schools. In 2005, Marie received plaques for “most ribbons” and “best cook” at the Kootenai County Fair; followed in 2006 with “most ribbons” plaque and second as “best cook." At 62 years of age, she took first in points and first in “most body weight lost." Marie was the oldest contender — she loved competition!

In her later years, Marie made sweaters for orphans and lap covers for cancer patients. She loved crocheting afghans for all babies, family, neighbors and friends. Marie also liked to tat many things. God gave her a love for people through hugs, smiles, touch, prayers and any way possible to show them God’s tender love. She liked to help in any way possible.

All friends are welcome for service and potluck at Real Life Ministries, Building #1, Room 112; 1866 N. Cecil Rd., Post Falls, Idaho, on Jan. 28, 2023 at 11 a.m.
