SOUZA: Supporters beware

It comes to me that if you are in Mary Souza’s inner circle of “friends,” confidants and supporters take this letter as a warning. Sooner or later you will find yourself named in or the subject of a “My Turn” (actually your turn) column as well. It is just a matter of time, you will bruise her ego or damage that sense of entitlement that Boise must instill in people when we send them down there…especially the senators.

Souza enjoyed great support for her Secretary of State candidacy from the KCRCC as she declared her candidacy. She appeared before that group multiple times, urging support and donations. Brent Regan, a man she labels publicly as dangerous, wrote her a check for thousands of dollars on the spot, then urged others to do the same. They sure were not so dangerous back then when they were writing her checks. I wrote you a check, Mary.

As the Secretary of State race matured it was apparent to anyone in the state who follows politics (except for Mary Souza apparently) that she did not have what it took to win or even compete in that race. So her supporters were faced with the choice, does one throw good money after bad? Do you waste your time on a losing candidate? Or does one cut their losses and support another candidate that aligns with one’s values and has a chance to win? Folks, that is the crux of the issue. It saddens me to write this.

I remember the Mary Souza who was selfless, and humble and would help anyone. She was someone who even when you disagreed, could still be civil. You could look to the next issue that you agreed on and work together. She would never think of writing a public column attacking people personally or throwing bombs in public. With a heavy heart, I await the return of that Mary.
