MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE: 600 excited to hear her speak

“Group opposes Greene as Lincoln Day speaker” reads the top headline of the Saturday, Jan. 7 edition of this publication. In the article, retired brigadier general Richard Turner expressed his disdain for Greene and her supposed “history of bigotry and association with white nationalism…,” which in his view, should disqualify her for a speaking role in Idaho.

Does the general recall the oath he took when entering the military… “solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States…”? Need I remind the general that the first amendment of our Constitution grants us the freedom of speech? That includes all speech, even speech with which we do not agree.

Quite honestly, I question the charge of speech or belief and wonder if perhaps the objection is with Greene’s unapologetic support for President Trump. It really doesn’t matter. Because as the good general resides in a suburb of Boise, there are more than 600 local folks that are very excited to hear Marjorie Taylor Greene speak. Much to the chagrin of General Turner and others, this show will go on. Let’s just hope the good general hasn’t incited the certain crowd of protesters to become violent.
