WSU names Arbuckle OC, Maile defensive coach

PULLMAN — Washington State football coach Jake Dickert added Ben Arbuckle and Frank Maile to his 2023 coaching staff, it was announced Friday.

Arbuckle will be offensive coordinator while also working with quarterbacks, and Maile will serve as the Cougars’ edges coach.

Arbuckle spent the past two seasons at Western Kentucky, serving as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the 2022 season. The Hilltoppers beat South Alabama 44-23 in the New Orleans Bowl to cap a 9-5 season.

Maile spent the past two seasons at Boise State where he served as the Broncos’ assistant head coach and defensive line coach. Prior to Boise State, Maile served two stints at his alma mater, Utah State (2016-20 and 2009-13).

Gonzaga to honor Vandersloot on Feb. 11

SPOKANE — Courtney Vandersloot will be honored by Gonzaga on Saturday, Feb. 11, during a ceremony prior to GU's game against Portland.

Vandersloot, who will become the first women's player in program history to have her jersey displayed in the McCarthey Athletic Center, will be present for the ceremony.

In the 2011 WNBA Draft, she became the first Bulldog player in school history to be drafted in the first round of the WNBA, as she was the third overall pick, taken by the Chicago Sky.

Vandersloot was a three-time West Coast Conference Player of the Year, was named to the Associated Press All-America Team second team as a senior.

She capped her GU career by leading the Zags to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, the West Coast Conference Tournament and regular season titles and a 31-5 record in 2010-11.

In the 2021 season, she helped lead the Sky to its first WNBA Championship.
