COEUR d’ALENE — Starting strong.

Hot shooting.

Balanced scoring.

The Lake City Timberwolves scored 28 first-quarter points, shot 64% from the field, and ran away from the Moscow Bears 83-37 in nonleague play Tuesday night at Lake City.

“We’re getting out of the starting gate really well the last few games,” Lake City coach Jim Winger said. “We ran the floor extremely well, and defensively we were really active.”

Blake Buchanan had 15 points and nine rebounds to lead five players into double figures for Lake City (10-0). Deacon Kiesbuy added 13 points, Cason Miller three 3-pointers and 11 points off the bench, Kolton Mitchell 10 points, eight assists and four rebounds, Zach Johnson 10 points, Reese Strawn eight points and six assists for the Timberwolves.

Lake City shot 32 of 50 from the field, including 10 of 16 from 3-point range. Buchanan and Strawn each hit two 3s for the T-Wolves.

“I really like our linescore,” Winger said. “Cason had a real nice night, Reese had some great passes, and Deacon shot the ball well. I’m impressed with our focus.”

Junior Ian Hillman hit four 3-pointers — all in the first half — and scored a game-high 18 points for Moscow (6-4). Senior Dylan Rehder hit four 3s and added 14 points for the Bears.

After Moscow hit six 3s in the first half, Winger was happy to see his team hold the Bears to just two 3s in the second half.

Lake City is scheduled to return to action Dec. 13 at Coeur d’Alene in the Fight for the Fish spirit game, which will also serve as the 5A Inland Empire League opener for both.

Senior guard Trace Wicks hit three 3-pointers and scored 12 of his 16 points in the third quarter as the Lumberjacks moved past the Spartans in a Central Idaho League game.
